About the studio

Two people. Twenty‑six years.
One small studio.

We’ve been making websites for small businesses since 1999 — long enough to know what works, short enough on staff that you always get the same two faces.

Our story

Started in a spare bedroom, kept it small on purpose.

Hermosa began in 1999, the year Google was three months old and most small businesses were still arguing about whether they really needed a website. We thought they did. We’ve been making the case — one site at a time — ever since.

Over the years we’ve been offered the obvious next steps: hire a sales team, scale up, take on enterprise work. We turned them all down. Small was the point. Small means you talk to the person who’s actually building your site, every time. Small means we can launch in two to four weeks instead of two to four months. Small means we say no to the work that isn’t a fit — and yes to the work we love.

Today we work with restaurants, farms, lobster shippers, vets, senior living communities, and the occasional B&B. They have one thing in common: they’re owner‑operated. The person signing our invoice is the person reading our emails. We like it that way.

The team

The two faces of Hermosa.

That’s it. No account managers, no junior pass‑throughs. The people in these photos are the people you work with.

Jesse Hermosa

Started the studio in ’99 because he’d rather make websites for small businesses than work in an office that called him a “resource.” Twenty‑six years later, he’s still doing it. Based in Maine, occasionally in California, almost never in a meeting.

Handles the messy parts — the build, the SEO, the “why isn’t this contact form working” calls. The reason every Hermosa site is fast, accessible, and easy to edit later. Based on the West Coast, awake before everyone else.

How we work

Four things we believe.

A small website should feel small — in the best way.

Calm, considered, fast to load, easy to read. Your website doesn't need to look like a SaaS company. It needs to look like you.

Pricing should be transparent, on the website, before you ask.

We don't do "starting at" or "contact us for a quote." The price is the price. If we can't do your project at our published rate, we'll tell you why.

Email back within one business day. Always.

The biggest complaint small business owners have about web vendors is radio silence. We don't do that. Every email gets a reply, even if the reply is "give us a day to think."

A website is a tool, not a trophy.

Beautiful is the means, not the end. Your site should make the phone ring, the inbox fill up, the parking lot full. If it doesn't, we did our job wrong.
